Buffer and Hootsuite overlap there every day, and Buffer's top slot is Tuesday at 9 a.m. Sprout Social is the outlier, with its peak from 12 to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday. All times are in your audience's local time.

The best time to post on X, by study
We use the three largest current studies we could verify on each publisher's own page. Later publishes no X study, so it isn't included.
| Study | Published | Sample | Measures | Time zone |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buffer | Mar 2026 | 8.7 million posts on X | Engagement rate | Audience's local time |
| Sprout Social | Mar 2026 | Nearly 2 billion engagements, 307,000 profiles (all networks), 27 Nov 2025 – 27 Feb 2026 | Peak engagement windows | Audience's local time |
| Hootsuite | Nov 2025 | Over 1 million posts (all networks), 118 countries | Engagement | Audience's local time |
All three give times in the audience's local time. Buffer: "consider all the recommendations local time." Sprout Social: "All optimal posting times are listed in Local Time." Hootsuite: "They are time-zone agnostic."

Why mornings win on X
X is a fast, news-driven feed. Hootsuite puts it simply: "X is a news-driven platform, so mid-mornings hit the sweet spot. People are catching up on headlines, trends, and what's happening now." Buffer's data shows the same thing from the other side: the worst times to post are in the evening, from 6 to 11 p.m., "when engagement drops significantly across all days of the week".
Sprout Social's afternoon peak comes from a different measure (peak engagement windows across its customers' profiles) and a different set of accounts: its customers' profiles. If your audience is professionals who check X during the working day, its 12–6 p.m. window is worth testing too.
Converting X times for followers in another country
The studies use the audience's local time, so if most of your followers are in the US and you're in London or Manila, post at US times converted to your clock. Here's Buffer's top slot, Tuesday at 9 a.m., converted:
| Audience in ↓ / you post from → | New York | London | Mumbai | Manila | Sydney |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| New York | Tue 9 a.m. | Tue 2 p.m. | Tue 7:30 p.m. | Tue 10 p.m. | Wed 1 a.m. |
| Los Angeles | Tue 12 p.m. | Tue 5 p.m. | Tue 10:30 p.m. | Wed 1 a.m. | Wed 4 a.m. |
| London | Tue 4 a.m. | Tue 9 a.m. | Tue 2:30 p.m. | Tue 5 p.m. | Tue 8 p.m. |
| Mumbai | Mon 10:30 p.m. | Tue 3:30 a.m. | Tue 9 a.m. | Tue 11:30 a.m. | Tue 2:30 p.m. |
| Manila | Mon 8 p.m. | Tue 1 a.m. | Tue 6:30 a.m. | Tue 9 a.m. | Tue 12 p.m. |
| Sydney | Mon 5 p.m. | Mon 10 p.m. | Tue 3:30 a.m. | Tue 6 a.m. | Tue 9 a.m. |
Toronto shares New York's time, and Vancouver shares Los Angeles's. These conversions are for mid-November; the gaps shift by an hour for a few weeks each spring and autumn. With followers on both US coasts, 9 a.m. in Los Angeles is noon in New York, so a 9–11 a.m. Pacific post reaches the East Coast at lunchtime. The best time to post finder shows overlaps like this for split audiences.
How to find your own best time on X
The simplest way to find your own best time on X is to test two windows and compare the results.
- Pick two windows: a morning one (for example, 9–11 a.m.) and an afternoon one (for example, 1–3 p.m.).
- Post similar posts in each, keeping the format and length alike.
- Check the results. Every post shows a view count next to its analytics icon. X's fuller analytics page, with daily insights on your posts, is a Premium feature.
- Compare engagement per view by time slot, not raw likes.
A simple four-week test:
- Weeks 1–2: post at 9–11 a.m. on weekdays.
- Weeks 3–4: post similar content at 12–3 p.m.
- Then compare replies, reposts and likes per view, and keep the winner.
